Welcome
Our Mission
The Communications Department instructs and supports students to learn
and apply communication skills and theories. We introduce students to
the field of communication and to the opportunities for competent communicators
in personal and professional settings. By the modeling and practice of
communication skills we promote our students' ability to express themselves
clearly, to listen actively, to think critically, to discuss academic
material thoughtfully, to present ideas and information effectively, and
to advocate for themselves competently.
Approach
Our approach to instruction emphasizes the skills of human communication
as well as the theory and technologies that support this communication.
We provide safe, dynamic and supportive learning environments that challenge
students to become better students and better communicators.
Role
Acknowledging the important role of communications on this campus, the
Communications Department shares in the leadership of promoting sound
communication practices and events on campus among and for students, faculty,
and staff. We also promote communication competency through developing
curriculum and instructional strategies and by providing instructional
support and consultation.
Content
The content of Communication courses include intrapersonal, interpersonal,
small group (including discussion), public, media and technology communications.
