Soccer
Men’s Soccer has been a tradition at Landmark since its inception. The field is smack in the middle of campus surrounded by our colonnade. Its resemblance to an ancient coliseum makes it one of the most striking facilities in the state. Landmark teams play a diversity of teams from the Division 3 Keene State University team to a fun game with the local Middle School. Our season is short but intense. It is an experience not to be missed by anyone with an interest in soccer. Landmark soccer is co-ed. Plans to field a women’s soccer team will depend on interest.
Baseball
Baseball took a huge step up when we were offered the opportunity to play on nearby Dummerston Community Baseball Field. It is a state of the art facility where Landmark practices and hosts teams from Hampshire College and teams from the local CRVBL league. Guys that haven’t played since little league are welcome to come out for the team and enjoy some recreational competitive baseball.
Softball
Women play their softball on the campus quad field. Our team plays local women’s clubs and like the soccer team they invite the local elementary school over for a fun game followed by dinner in the college dining hall. The kids love it.
Men’s & Women’s Basketball
Both men and women play ball in the Click Family Sports Center. This brand new Sports facility hosts teams from Hampshire College, Boston Baptist College, Stockbridge School, Simon’s Rock College as well as a host of local teams.
Intramural Sports
Landmark’s intramural sports program caters to students who want the competition but don’t have time to practice every day. Last fall we introduced “Fall ball hockey” on the tennis courts at night. It was Hall vs Hall with a prize awarded to the champs. This was followed by basketball competitions: again it was Hall vs Hall. Spring semester brings volleyball and softball tournaments with the champs receiving T-shirts. Look for indoor intramural soccer beginning in Spring 05’.
Club Sports
Club sports play a big role on campus. If you are into mountain biking, fencing, boxing or martial arts there is a venue for you. Weight training is available in two different locations on campus. There is the main gym in Aiken Hall and a smaller more intimate gym in the Click Family Sports Center. The Center also sports a “velocity pool.” Think of a treadmill in the water where students swim against an adjustable current.
Jim Austin
Jim Austin has been at Landmark College for fifteen years. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Windsor in Windsor Ontario, Canada and his Masters Degree from S.I.T. in Brattleboro, VT. In addition to Directing the Athletic Programs at Landmark, Jim coaches soccer, boxing and golf.
